Liverpool Player Ratings vs Brentford: Salah’s Screamer Not Enough as Reds Sink Again
It was another frustrating afternoon for Liverpool fans as the Reds slumped to a fourth straight Premier League defeat, this time at the hands of Brentford. Despite a stunning goal from Mohamed Salah, Jurgen Klopp’s side just couldn’t find their rhythm — and it showed.
The Egyptian King gave the Anfield faithful a glimmer of hope with a trademark screamer, but his overall performance mirrored that of the team: disjointed, flat, and far from convincing. He may have found the net, but it wasn’t enough to paper over the cracks.
One of the biggest disappointments on the day? "Florian Wirtz." Tipped to be Liverpool’s next creative spark, the German playmaker looked lost once again, marking his fourth straight underwhelming display. His passes lacked bite, his movement was sluggish, and he simply couldn't impact the game when it mattered.
Elsewhere, Liverpool's midfield looked overrun, the defence shaky, and the energy levels... just not there. Brentford, on the other hand, were organized, hungry, and clinical — everything Liverpool weren’t.
Here’s a quick look at "how the Reds rated":
- Giorgio Mamardashvili (5/10):
Once again deputising for the injured Alisson, he pulled off a superb save to deny Damsgaard late in the first half. He had little chance with either of Brentford’s first-half goals or the second-half penalty. Still in search of his first clean sheet for the Reds this season.
- Virgil van Dijk – 5/10:
He rallied the squad for a clear-the-air meeting following the defeat to Man United, and although he got the response he wanted in Germany, this performance ranked among the worst the Reds have produced all season. He'll feel hard done by after giving away the early second-half penalty.
- Florian Wirtz – 4/10:
The high-profile summer signing recently shone with two assists in the Champions League victory, but will be frustrated not to have levelled the score from ten yards—his shot drifting just wide. Questions still linger, as he struggled to keep up with the game's intensity and at times appeared disengaged.
- Mohamed Salah – 6.5/10:
After a dramatic week, Salah returned to the starting XI following a spell on the bench, eager to break his recent dip in form. However, he appeared tense early on and lacked his trademark composure. Far from his usual dominant self, he can have little complaint if he's benched again in the coming weeks. While he took his goal brilliantly, it ultimately served as nothing more than a consolation.
- Dominik Szoboszlai (5/10):
The midfielder impressed in the midweek Champions League clash but found it difficult to keep up with Brentford’s relentless tempo. He displayed some tidy touches and put in a strong work rate, but ultimately couldn’t leave a significant mark on the game.
It’s now back to the drawing board for Klopp and co. With top-four hopes fading fast, something has to change — and quickly.
